U2 bassist Adam Clayton reacted to a Noel Gallagher rant backstage about Oasis fans.
GQ told Noel, “I remember Bono said once U2 always worried in the studio when someone said what they were doing was ‘interesting,’ as you couldn’t do that with U2; you’ve got to write U2 songs that sound great in a stadium.”
Noel responded, “That’s true, although they’re probably the most flexible of all those big bands, where they do kind of veer off from time to time. When I was on tour with them, I told Adam Clayton I was still getting a lot of shit from Oasis fans because I was using synthesisers and he said they had the same thing with Achtung Baby.
I said, ‘Yeah, but you didn’t have social media to contend with so you had no idea what people were saying.’ I’m not on social media myself, but my business is, and the abuse from Oasis fans has got worse as it’s gone on. But you can’t let it dictate what you do.”
Oasis split in 2009, and Noel Gallagher has had to deal with booing Liam Gallagher fans at some concerts, and some fans are upset when he doesn’t play every Oasis hit from the 90’s.
