The Killers drummer Ronnie Vanucci has confirmed that the band will release their new album in August in a new Sarah Hagan Backstage Podcast interview. The album will reunite the band’s original lineup, with guitarist Dave Keuning returning after a 4 year absence. Dave Keuning Reacts To The Killers Calling Him ‘Lazy’
“[Imploding the Mirage] came out last August, we have another one coming out this August. We had this stockpile of songs that were sort of orphans off of the last record, but we’re saving those for the next record, we instead made this record, which is a bit of a concept record. It’s very different from normal Killers stuff. So we still have that stockpile left, and we’re still writing. It’s always good to have a few songs, or an album, even, lying around, just in case.”
He said about touring “We’re cautiously optimistic. We don’t want to be the band that brings COVID back. And also, I don’t know whether or not people are talking about this, but business-wise there’s these COVID-related situations when it comes to gigs. It’s now part of force majeure in our contract. Which basically means – the long and short of it is that the band’s on the hook if that place gets shut down before the gig. So you have to be very careful.
“You’ve got your traveling circus and you make it all the way to a place and they’re like, ‘Sorry, there’s a case; we’re not doing the festival, we’re not doing the concert, I’m assuming my expenses, you’re assuming your expenses – and by the way, you’re not getting paid, either.’ So there’s this component that there’s this new asterisk, new liability, bands are accepting this liability.
“So that’s an element but the most important part of the whole thing is we just want to make sure it’s the right time. We’re as anxious as everybody to go out and do stuff. I know we have some stuff on the books. The Firefly Festival out near you guys, a couple other ones.
“There’s one down in Florida, I don’t think Florida even had COVID [sarcasm], that didn’t exist down there. So there’s some things maybe happening and hopefully it will happen, but I’m being cautious.”
