A rare Beatles bootleg recording from a 1965 concert at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens is being sold for $250,000. The tape was bought by superfan Piers Hemmingsen while he was working on a book called The Beatles in Canada. At first, Hemmingsen thought the tape was low quality, like many other Beatles bootlegs. However, after using the wrong player, he realized the tape sounded much better when played on a proper half-track machine. Thom Yorke claimed he isn’t ripping off The Beatles.
Hemmingsen plans to sell the tape and use the money to publish his next book. But for him, the real reward was hearing the tape in its true quality. He said it made all his hard work over the years worthwhile. The recording is considered extremely rare, making it highly valuable to Beatles fans and collectors.
In other news, anew Beatles documentary, produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by David Tedeschi, is coming to Disney+ on November 29. The film, called Beatles ’64, shows The Beatles’ first trip to America over 60 years ago. It features never-before-seen footage of the band and their fans, offering a rare look at how they became one of the most loved and influential bands in history.
