This weekend, people were talking about Blake Lively’s lawsuit, where she claims she was sexually harassed and that a campaign was set up to ruin her reputation. The lawsuit involves her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni, and his PR team, TAG PR. Lively’s legal team says they made up lies about her to cover up the harassment. But what caught people’s attention was an unexpected connection to Taylor Swift. Swift even skipped Kelce’s game following her after-party.
In the court documents, Lively’s legal team says that Baldoni and his PR team used past controversies involving Taylor Swift as a guide for creating negative stories about Lively. One of the documents talks about using “feminism” against Lively, and mentions how people like Swift have been accused of using feminism to get what they want. While no specific examples are given, it’s clear the reference to Swift is important because of her past media battles.
Taylor Swift has been targeted by the media before, especially in 2016 when Kanye West and Kim Kardashian created a scandal involving a phone call about West’s song Famous. The song included a line insulting Swift, and West claimed she had approved it. But later, the full video of the phone call was released, showing Swift had not approved the lyrics.
Some people also criticized Swift for using feminism to defend herself, pointing to incidents like the 2013 Golden Globes joke about her dating life. She famously said there’s “a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” Some of her fans have been known to attack people who criticize her.
There are also rumors that Scooter Braun, the music executive who bought the rights to Swift’s earlier music, might be connected to TAG PR. His company, HYBE America, is linked to some of the same companies as TAG, which has made some fans suspect he might be involved in trying to hurt Lively and Swift.
So far, Taylor Swift hasn’t spoken out about the connection to her past media struggles or the lawsuit involving Lively.
