Taylor Swift fans are rallying to defend her after a viral video showed a social media user attempting to lip-read a conversation between Swift and WNBA star Caitlin Clark. The clip, which was recorded at a Kansas City Chiefs game on January 18, showed Swift covering her mouth while speaking with Clark, leading the social media user to dub over their voices with a presumed interpretation of their conversation. Swift even skipped Kelce’s game following her after-party.
Swifties didn’t take kindly to the video, pointing out that Swift covers her mouth for privacy and that it’s invasive to speculate on what was said. Some fans even expressed concern about the dehumanizing nature of such videos, with one person noting that it’s already difficult enough for celebrities to feel like they live in a “fish bowl,” and now people are trying to decode their private moments.
Interestingly, Swift and Clark’s appearance at the game might not have been as random as it seemed. Clark revealed that Swift invited her to the Chiefs game after she attended Swift’s concerts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. After those shows, Swift gave Clark four bags of Eras Tour merchandise, along with a note that praised Clark’s inspiring performance and invited her to the game. This connection between the two seemed to catch fans off guard, and it quickly became a topic of discussion.
