In 2015, Taylor Swift asked Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels to cancel a sketch that made fun of her famous “girl squad” – but Michaels refused, according to a report from Vulture.
At the time, Michaels had reached out to Swift’s team, hoping she would make a surprise appearance on the show. The sketch was a parody of her “Bad Blood” music video, reimagining her squad as an apocalyptic cult.
Swift’s Direct Call to Lorne Michaels
After learning about the sketch, Swift, now 35, reportedly called Michaels herself. She asked him to cut the skit and made it clear she wouldn’t be participating.
Michaels listened but ultimately stood firm, allegedly telling Swift:
“Taylor, I do not negotiate with terrorists.”
Despite the disagreement, the sketch aired as planned. It featured Tina Fey and Amy Poehler forming a “Dope Squad,” alongside Amy Schumer, Gayle King, and Robert Downey Sr.
Although Swift was initially against the skit, she later sent Michaels a bouquet of flowers with a note that read:
“I hope there’s no bad blood.”
Michaels did not comment on the report, but it seems the two put the issue behind them. Swift went on to appear as a musical guest on SNL in 2017, 2019, and 2021. She also made a surprise appearance in 2023 to introduce rapper Ice Spice.
