Paul McCartney feels Ringo Starr would be a good US president via Rock Celebrities.
In a recent interview, McCartney spoke to Mojo when he was asked why he thinks Ringo was so popular with fans in America and whether he would support a Ringo for President campaign. He replied, “Ringo for President? Yeah, absolutely! He would do a great job. President of what is the question?”
Paul then explained why he thinks Starr is ‘a natural genius. He said: “Many ways, actually. You know, he didn’t have a sort of heavy education, like a lot of people.”
He added, “So anything he knows is self-taught, most of it, he’s very clever that way. He picks things up and is very witty. And, above all else, he’s an amazing drummer who just knows how to do it. Simple as that.”
Starr also previously talked about his relationship with the Beatles bandmate McCartney in a 2023 interview with CNN. The drummer explained:
“Paul called me the other day … We’re close, close friends. We’re brothers, and you know, for me, it was great because I’m an only child, and suddenly I had three brothers that I could love, I could rely on, I could help out. You know, it was a great moment for me.”
Starr believes the Beatles made too many records because of McCartney. In an AXS TV interview with Dan Rather last year, he said that while the band had disagreements, they always set them aside when playing music.
He said, “Suddenly, we’ve got lives and I’ve got children and you know, the effort that we put in cause we worked really hard was starting to pale a little and we always thank Paul to this day.”
“Because of Paul, who was the workaholic of our band, we made a lot more records than John and I would’ve made. We liked to sit around a little more and then Paul would call ‘Alright lads,’ and we’d go in,” Ringo added.
