Tan France Defends Meghan Markle Netflix Show
Fashion designer and TV personality Tan France has spoken out about the criticism aimed at Meghan Markle’s Netflix cookery series, after the Duchess of Sussex faced negative reviews for the lifestyle format. France, who appeared in the programme’s second season, addressed the reaction during a recent television interview, arguing that the show was unlikely to appeal to British viewers in the way it might in the United States.
In remarks highlighted by Express, France said he felt he understood both audiences as a Brit living in the US, adding that the series “was never going to be for the Brits” and describing British viewers as “too cynical” for what he characterised as the show’s “whimsy.”
Meghan Markle, who stepped back from duties as a working member of the Royal Family in 2020, has pursued a range of media and business projects since relocating to the US. Her Netflix cooking show, titled With Love, Meghan, aired last year and has been the subject of mixed to harsh reviews in the UK and the US, according to the report.
France’s comments come as the Duchess continues to face scrutiny over public-facing ventures, including her lifestyle branding efforts and social media presence, after Meghan Markle was criticised over an As Ever gift box sent to an influencer in a separate recent controversy.
France also praised Meghan’s style, saying she “dresses wicked” and did not need his fashion advice, while noting he would not offer guidance unless asked. The latest remarks underline how sharply perceptions of the Duchess’s projects can diverge on both sides of the Atlantic, as she remains a high-profile figure whose new releases continue to attract intense attention.
