Prince Harry is getting support from European royalty as he continues to deal with family tensions and legal battles. Princess Delphine of Belgium recently spoke out in support of him during an appearance on the It’s Reigning Men podcast.
Delphine, 57, said she has followed Princess Diana’s story, including her tragic death in 1997, which deeply affected a then-12-year-old Harry. She believes Harry is still dealing with the trauma from losing his mother and that it’s showing through his actions today.
She also shared her thoughts on Harry’s recent legal battle over security in the U.K., where he lost a case to reinstate state-funded protection. Delphine said Harry’s concerns are likely tied to his mother’s death, noting that he doesn’t feel safe bringing Meghan and their children to the U.K. without proper protection.
“I understand the guy,” Delphine said, adding that people often criticize Harry without acknowledging his trauma. She described it as “terrible” and said he seems to have been “left behind.”
Delphine’s own experience with royal life hasn’t been easy. She didn’t learn that her father was King Albert II of Belgium until she was 18. After a long legal fight and a DNA test in 2020, she was officially recognized and granted a royal title. Since then, she’s taken part in public events with the Belgian royal family.
As for Harry, tensions with his own family have been ongoing since he and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. Things escalated after their interviews, Netflix series, and Harry’s memoir Spare.
However, there are signs of progress. On July 9, two of Harry’s aides quietly met with a member of King Charles’ team at a private London club. The meeting is seen as a possible first step toward rebuilding communication between father and son.
An insider said the meeting was a “good first step” and said that “it is always better to be talking.” While some palace sources say it was just a routine professional exchange, others see it as a sign that reconciliation may be possible.
