William and Kate’s Kensington Palace Bedroom Was Ground Floor
Prince William and Princess Kate’s former living arrangements at Kensington Palace have resurfaced after a floor plan of Apartment 1A highlighted an unexpected detail: the couple’s main bedroom was positioned on the ground floor rather than upstairs, a set-up described as unconventional for most households.
The Mirror reported that the principal bedroom the Prince and Princess of Wales previously used in the 20-room residence was located on the ground floor, based on the published layout of their former home.
The article said Apartment 1A, once home to Princess Margaret, spans four floors and includes its own lift, a gym and staff quarters, and it quoted royal author Dr Christopher Warwick explaining that residences at Kensington Palace are called “apartments” but are closer to joined terrace houses than flats.
The couple’s home base has changed in recent years, and they are now reported to be living at the eight-bedroom Forest Hall in Windsor after time at Anmer Hall in Norfolk and Adelaide Cottage; William and Kate have also faced heightened attention on their public appearances, including when Prince William drew comparisons to Kate after going gloveless at a recent engagement.
The discussion offers a rare glimpse into the private set-up of royal residences, at a time when the Prince and Princess of Wales continue to keep most details of their family home life out of the public eye.
