Royal Butler Says Staff Avoided Prince Andrew
A former royal butler has claimed some palace staff were uncomfortable working around Prince Andrew and that his manner left colleagues reluctant to be in the disgraced royal’s company. Grant Harrold, who previously worked in the royal household, discussed his experience in a recent interview, describing limited interactions with the Duke of York and alleging an “entitled feeling” surrounding him.
Wonderwall reported that Mr Harrold said: “I just didn’t want to be in his presence,” while adding that when he did have dealings with Andrew “he was polite” and would offer a “thank you or whatever.”
Mr Harrold also recalled an incident at King Charles and Queen Camilla’s 2005 wedding, claiming Andrew did not speak to staff who were present as guests and “would only speak to the family or family friends”. He said colleagues in the household “never have a nice thing to say about him”, adding: “It’s quite sad actually, because I don’t know why he was like that.”
The account comes amid continued scrutiny of the Duke’s standing, including moments when King Charles was heckled in Cornwall over references to Andrew during public engagements.
Wonderwall also cited claims attributed to an unnamed insider that, amid alleged discussions about Andrew’s living arrangements, staff were told they did not have to work for him if they felt uncomfortable. Buckingham Palace has not commented on the remarks.
