Robbie Williams Mocks Noel Gallagher With Poster
Robbie Williams has reignited his long-running rivalry with Noel Gallagher by promoting a Manchester performance with a pointed dig on the street where the Oasis songwriter once lived. The singer, 52, shared images of the artwork on Instagram as he prepared to play a gig at Aviva Studios in the city on Thursday night as part of Brits Week.
On Whitworth Street West in Manchester city centre, Metro reported that Williams’ poster quoted a four-star Daily Telegraph review of his album Britpop, saying it contained “sing-along choruses to make Noel Gallagher question whether he ever needs to bother writing another song.”
Williams, a former Take That member, has traded barbs with the Gallagher brothers for more than two decades, with the feud dating back to comments exchanged around the 2000 BRIT Awards. The Metro report said the latest promotional artwork also displayed star ratings from several other publications and was timed to coincide with his show featuring songs from Life Thru A Lens and Britpop.
The Manchester stunt follows other flashpoints involving the singer, including when Jimmy Page revived his own feud with Robbie Williams in separate recent coverage.
With Noel Gallagher also due to attend this weekend’s BRIT Awards ceremony to receive the songwriter of the year prize, the latest Williams swipe is likely to add fresh attention to one of Britpop’s most persistent celebrity fallouts.
