Ricky Gervais has promised fans that his upcoming tour will not use “dynamic pricing” for tickets. This follows complaints about high ticket prices for the Oasis reunion, which rose significantly because of high demand. Many fans were upset when they had to pay much more than they expected for Oasis tickets when they went on sale last month, but Oasis did reject a festival due to money.
Gervais shared that tickets for his Mortality tour would go on sale on Friday at 10 am. He mentioned that there would be some expensive Platinum tickets, but the extra money from those would go to charity. He joked that those tickets would sell out quickly because of his popularity.
The Oasis reunion features brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher and is set for next year. When their tickets were released in late August, prices went up due to high online demand, frustrating some fans.
After Gervais’s announcement, fans compared his ticket pricing to the situation with Oasis, praising him for being fair and straightforward.
The Gallaghers responded to the complaints by saying they had no control over ticket pricing and that their promoters made those decisions. They also stated they were not aware that dynamic pricing would be used.
The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority is looking into whether Ticketmaster’s sale of Oasis tickets broke any consumer laws. Meanwhile, other artists, like Iron Maiden, have decided not to use dynamic pricing for their tours, stating they will keep ticket resale prices at face value.
