Queen have been in pop culture ever since they broke huge. The band has been known for generations and continue to be passed down by parents to children. The movie ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ brought in a whole new crowd to the band and even brought in a lot of new money as well.
Looking at the earnings from the 2018 year, you can clearly see that there was a huge uptick in earnings for Queen in the next two years to come. As they explain, they’ve looked into Queen Productions Ltd.’s earnings for the fiscal year of 2021. The legal entity “which reflects the band’s revenues generated by music copyrights” got around £41.67 million, or $53.5 million, in the fiscal year of 2020.
This success was largely due to the success of the “Bohemian Rhapsody” film, starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. In the fiscal year of 2021, the legal entity earned about £38.92 million, which is roughly $53.5 million. As the report explains, the total sum was only 6.6% lower from what they got in the fiscal year of 2020. You can check out a more detailed look into the matter in the source’s graph below.
Since the year of the movie, there was a final large uptick in the band’s earnings, but now it seems that they are tailing off again, but they are also still much higher than they were in years previous to the film being released. The family of Freddy Mercury do get to see a cut from the use of the songs as well, but there have been no disclosures on how the splits have been working in favor of the late singer or the family that are still around to gain from the giant legacy that he has left behind. Hopefully, the music will stay as current as it was the day that it came out.
