Prince William Vowed Legal Fight Over Photos
Prince William was described as being prepared to take on the press after intrusive photographs of Catherine, Princess of Wales were published during a private holiday in 2012, according to a new book by royal editor Mr Russell Myers.
Fox News reported that Myers, author of “William and Catherine”, said the Prince of Wales wanted to pursue legal action “all the way” after paparazzi secretly photographed Catherine sunbathing topless in the South of France, with the images later published by French magazine Closer.
In comments to Fox News Digital, Mr Myers said William wanted to avoid a repeat of what he witnessed during the breakdown of King Charles’s marriage to Princess Diana, and recalled the prince telling a group of national journalists: “We are not going to go down the same road.”
The episode is revisited as part of ongoing discussion about how Catherine has handled intense media attention, after a royal editor rejected claims the Princess was a “wallflower” in earlier coverage of her public role.
Myers’s book also recounts how William contacted senior royals at the time to say he would sue over what he called “monstrous behavior”, and notes the case later ended with a French court ordering damages and fines in 2017.
