Paul Burrell: William ‘distanced’ himself from Harry
Prince William has “distanced” himself from Prince Harry as he moves closer to becoming king, according to Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former butler, who said he believes the brothers’ rift is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon.
Burrell told Fox News Digital that Prince William has “distanced himself from Harry a lot more than people realize” because his role requires a “tight and protected” environment as he prepares for the throne, Fox News reported.
In the interview, Mr Burrell said the Prince of Wales needs to prevent “things” from leaking out and must protect “the crown” as he approaches the monarchy, adding that “too many words have been said” publicly for an easy reconciliation. The former palace staff member also referenced Prince Harry’s decision to step back as a senior royal in 2020 and the fallout from the Duke of Sussex’s public interviews and 2023 memoir.
Burrell’s comments come as the Prince of Wales continues to focus on his duties alongside Catherine, Princess of Wales, with recent reporting noting the couple are “totally united” in decisions around tightening the royal inner circle.
Prince Harry has previously spoken about wanting reconciliation with his family, but Burrell argued that the divide between the brothers has hardened over time, with the future king’s priority now centred on safeguarding his family and the institution.
