Prince Philip was relieved as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials were over, a royal biographer claims via Page Six.
“Once all the formalities were over, we watched as the happy couple, and then the other members of the Royal Family, filed out of the chapel,” former royal butler Grant Harrold writes an upcoming memoir, according to an excerpt published by the Telegraph Monday.
He added, “When Prince Philip came out, he turned to the Queen and said, ‘Thank f–k that’s over.’”
Harrold’s book, “The Royal Butler,” hits shelves in September.
The couple famously exchanged vows in a lavish ceremony in 2018 at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, attended by both Queen Elizabeth, who passed away in 2022, and Prince Philip, who died in 2021.
In a controversial move, Harry and Meghan announced their decision to step back from their royal duties in 2020 and relocate to California, where they are raising their children: Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
While Prince Philip reportedly disagreed with the couple’s decision, he chose not to involve himself in the situation. According to royal biographer Gyles Brandreth, Philip understood that “people have to lead their lives as they think best.” He also viewed Harry, who continues to navigate a rift with his brother, Prince William, as a “good man” and was sympathetic to Harry’s desire to “do things his own way,” according to Brandreth.
