Prince Harry is still fighting to get his U.K. security back, but things with his father, King Charles, are not improving. People close to the royal family say that Harry and Charles are still not getting along and haven’t made up.
Harry, who is 40, has been going to court in the U.K. a lot, mostly to fight against the press. But the most important case to him is about getting his government security back. He lost that protection in 2020 when he and his wife Meghan Markle stepped away from royal duties. Harry said this case matters because it’s about keeping Meghan and their kids, Archie (5) and Lilibet (3), safe. He also sees it as a chance to possibly fix things with his father.
The court fight shows how deep the problems are between Harry and his family. King Charles’s advisors are involved with the committee that decided to take Harry’s protection away. Harry believes this was done on purpose to push him and Meghan to stay in the royal family. Instead, it made things worse and hurt him even more.
Harry feels that Charles could help and bring the protection back, but the palace says that’s not true. The distance between them keeps growing. The last time they met was for just 30 minutes in February 2024 after Charles announced he had cancer. Queen Camilla was also there. Since then, Harry says his phone calls and letters haven’t been answered. He even found out about Charles being in the hospital in March through the news.
During Harry’s recent visits to the U.K., Charles has been too busy to see him — including this month, even though Harry’s court date had been planned ahead of time. Harry still doesn’t know much about his father’s health.
People close to Charles say he’s staying away so he doesn’t get dragged into the court case. A royal expert said even a small comment from Charles could affect the case. Others think it’s still possible to separate work from personal matters, but emotions are running high.
