Prince Harry stays silent as Australia trip nears
Prince Harry is facing renewed scrutiny over his silence on the arrest of his uncle Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, with a PR expert suggesting the Duke of Sussex could be pressed to address the issue during a planned visit to Australia next month. The comments come as the royal family continues to manage reputational fallout linked to fresh allegations emerging from the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on February 19, and a police investigation remains ongoing, Daily Record reported.
PR expert Mr Dermot McNamara told the Mirror that while Prince Harry was not implicated, he may still be forced to answer questions because “the whole world is speculating on his family” in connection with Epstein. He added that the Duke is “in a very difficult position” because commenting could drag him into the matter, while staying quiet risks being seen as avoidance.
The prospect of public questioning has been raised ahead of the Sussexes’ expected trip, following previous coverage in which Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were told to have “thick skins” in Australia amid anticipated media attention.
Buckingham Palace has previously said King Charles expressed “profound concern” about allegations relating to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and stressed that “the law must take its course”. Any appearance by the Duke and Duchess overseas is likely to bring further questions about how they respond publicly to the investigation and wider controversy.
