Harry and Meghan Urge Tech Accountability in New Archewell Statement
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have issued a new statement through Archewell Philanthropies calling for greater accountability from technology companies and governments over children’s online safety, as legal and political action around the world intensifies.
In the message, Express reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said families “devastated by online harm” have “waited too long for this moment” and criticised “manipulative algorithms built with profits, not child safety, as the priority.”
The statement referenced what the couple described as a “pivotal moment” for families “seeking truth, justice and safeguards for children and communities around the world,” and highlighted experiences shared by their Parents’ Network community, including the effects of cyberbullying and what they called algorithm-driven manipulation.
Their latest intervention follows continuing public attention on the wider Epstein files story, after Meghan Markle was reported to have urged Prince Harry to avoid being drawn into the controversy as it dominates headlines in the UK and US.
Archewell Philanthropies said it is watching developments with “cautious optimism” and urged governments to adopt safeguards, arguing that no single country’s law can solve what it described as a global problem, while calling for platforms to design products with children’s wellbeing as a first principle.
