Jennie Bond says Invictus Games could offer reunion moment for Prince Harry and Prince William
Prince Harry could have a fresh opening to repair relations with Prince William through the Invictus Games, according to former BBC royal correspondent Ms Jennie Bond. The comments come amid continuing reports of strain between the brothers in the years since the Duke of Sussex stepped back from royal duties and moved to the United States.
Express reported that Ms Bond wrote the Invictus Games in Birmingham next year could provide “the perfect platform for a public reconciliation”, noting that King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William all attended the inaugural games in 2014 to support Prince Harry.
The royal commentator said Prince Harry, 41, may now be looking for what she described as a “peace treaty”, while cautioning that bridging the gap may not be straightforward. She pointed to possible diary and family pressures, including that the event is expected to coincide with celebrations for Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday, and argued the King may want attention focused on his wife.
The wider family context has continued to draw public attention, with Prince William’s recent appearances prompting close scrutiny, including when he was seen looking tense at an Aston Villa game in separate coverage.
Invictus, founded by Prince Harry in 2014 to support wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans, remains one of his highest-profile projects. Whether a future UK-hosted edition becomes a setting for a royal reunion is uncertain, but the event is expected to place the Duke back in the public spotlight on home soil.
