Hello Magazine columnist says Prince Andrew should apologise
A Hello Magazine royal column has argued that pressure on the Royal Family to issue apologies or statements should instead be directed at Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, amid renewed scrutiny over his past association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The opinion piece, published on Sunday, positions Andrew as the figure who should address public concerns rather than King Charles III or Prince William.
Discussing the debate around who should respond, Hello Magazine wrote that “the real person who should be apologising” is Andrew, not the King or the Prince of Wales, framing the calls for Charles or William to speak as misplaced.
The commentary comes as the Duke of York continues to face reputational fallout after stepping back from public duties, with royal aides maintaining that he has repeatedly denied wrongdoing. Andrew has previously said he regrets his association with Epstein and has denied allegations connected to Virginia Giuffre, settling a civil case in the United States in 2022 without admitting liability.
The article also suggests that Charles and William are constrained by constitutional and family considerations when responding to controversy, and notes that the monarchy’s public-facing work is typically kept separate from private family disputes. In recent days, the Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have also come under pressure to comment, after a palace spokesman said the couple were “deeply concerned” by ongoing revelations.
As the conversation continues, the piece argues that a direct apology from Andrew would carry more weight than statements from other senior royals, and that any further public intervention should focus on those most affected by the scandal.
