Tom Bower Book Claims Andrew Called Meghan ‘Opportunist’
New claims about tensions inside the Royal Family have resurfaced after a report said Prince Andrew privately labelled Meghan Markle an “opportunist”. The allegation appears in royal author Mr Tom Bower’s book Betrayal, which revisits flashpoints involving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and other senior royals around recent major events.
Reality Tea reported that Mr Bower’s book describes Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor as having viewed the Duchess of Sussex in those terms, as part of a wider account of fractures behind palace doors.
The report also says a source told OK! that Andrew’s alleged assessment “underscores how deeply fractured relationships had become behind closed doors.” It further cites Mr Bower alleging a tense moment between Prince Harry and his uncle, including an awkward car ride to Westminster Abbey in 2023 ahead of the coronation of King Charles III.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex dismissed the book’s claims, saying Mr Bower’s commentary had “crossed the line from criticism into fixation” and accusing him of creating elaborate theories about people he has never met, according to the report. Separately, earlier Britpop News reporting has said Meghan has faced scrutiny over future projects, including suggestions that she has dropped memoir plans amid royal caution.
Betrayal was reported to have been released on 26 March, with the latest coverage adding to ongoing public interest in relationships between the Sussexes and other members of the Royal Family.
