The Who’s Pete Townshend shared his surprise and disappointment about the big Oasis reunion, a feeling that’s different from what many fans are feeling. In an interview with The Standard, Townshend said he’s “disappointed” to see the Gallagher brothers get back together. When asked if it’s because he couldn’t get a ticket, he jokingly replied, “No, because I really like their solo albums.” In fact, an Oasis member could retire after their tour.
Townshend’s view stands out because most people are excited about Oasis’s return, with the interviewer even noting that his opinion is one not many would share. In fact, Matty Healy from The 1975 once said in 2023 that “no one going to a [Noel Gallagher] High Flying Birds or Liam Gallagher concert wouldn’t prefer to be at an Oasis gig.”
While fans are happy about the reunion, Townshend seems to like the solo work of both Noel and Liam more than their band’s music. Interestingly, he’s not the only one. In a September interview, Carlos O’Connell and Conor Deegan III of Fontaines D.C. also said they weren’t excited about the reunion, proving that not everyone in the music industry shares the same enthusiasm.
Despite some mixed opinions, most fans can’t wait for Oasis’s comeback. Their tour starts in the U.K. in July 2025 and moves to the U.S. in August. Even though Townshend and others may feel differently, the excitement for the brothers’ reunion is still very strong.
