Chrissie Hynde played to a full house at Liverpool’s Royal Philharmonic Hall, and she shared a message she got from Paul McCartney before the show. Chrissie, performing with The Pretenders to promote their new album Relentless, said she had texted Paul to tell him she was in his hometown. He simply replied, “Rock them Scousers,” which made the crowd cheer and give a standing ovation. McCartney also tried to bring John Lennon and Yoko Ono together.
The two-hour show was packed with classics like Kid, I’ll Stand By You, and Don’t Get Me Wrong, plus songs from the new album. Before singing Don’t Get Me Wrong, Chrissie made the audience laugh by saying Bob Dylan had once advised her not to name-drop.
Chrissie also dedicated the song Kid to her late bandmates, James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon, who were part of the original lineup of The Pretenders. She said, “This song is for James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon—without them, we wouldn’t be here.”
At 73, Chrissie still wowed the crowd with her powerful voice, strong stage presence, and lively energy. Fans stayed on their feet, cheering her on for the entire show.
