The Beatles ruled the music scene in the 1960s, but by the early 1970s, they went their separate ways. Rising tensions, creative differences, and John Lennon’s relationship with Yoko Ono are all thought to be reasons for the split, which broke fans’ hearts. McCartney also recently shared his last photos with Quincy Jones.
Their last recording together was in August 1969 for the song “The End,” on the Abbey Road album. In September, John told the band he wanted to leave, calling it a “divorce” from The Beatles.
Let It Be became their final album, released in 1970 using older recordings. In April, Paul McCartney announced in a press release that he was leaving, officially ending the band.
There was also conflict around Paul’s first solo album, McCartney, which he recorded privately after John decided to leave. Paul wanted to release it close to Let It Be, which caused friction, especially with the band’s manager choice. Paul was against hiring Allan Klein, while John, George, and Ringo supported it.
To avoid both albums coming out at the same time, Ringo went to Paul’s house with a letter from himself, John, and George, asking him to delay his release. In a 2018 interview with Howard Stern, Paul confirmed he told Ringo to leave. He admitted he was upset about the breakup and worried about losing control of their hard-earned money. So, when Ringo made the request, Paul, feeling frustrated, told him to get out.
