Palace Received Prince Andrew Email Cache in 2020
Buckingham Palace was handed a large archive of emails in 2020 linked to Prince Andrew’s time as a UK trade envoy, court documents indicate, as police continue investigating allegations of misconduct in public office.
According to BBC News, a “copy of the archive” of around 30,000 emails was provided to the Lord Chamberlain in May 2020, with a later High Court ruling also referring to an email saying the material had been “delivered to Buckingham Palace”.
The BBC reported the messages were taken from the account of Jonathan Rowland, described as a personal business contact of the former Duke of York, after a dispute with a business colleague, before being obtained by retail entrepreneur Mr Kevin Stanford and shared with several parties, including palace officials.
The development follows renewed public scrutiny of the Duke’s dealings during his envoy years and comes amid wider concern about accountability around royal roles, including allegations previously aired in Britpop News coverage of claims linked to UK policing and Prince Andrew.
Buckingham Palace said it could not comment on what happened to the emails because of an ongoing police enquiry, while Thames Valley Police has appealed for anyone with relevant information to come forward. The BBC said the contents of the full archive are not publicly known, although some published emails have previously been cited in reporting about confidential briefings and the Duke’s private contacts.
