Oasis fans frustrated by high ticket prices for the band’s reunion tour might enjoy seeing a giant effigy of Ticketmaster burned on Bonfire Night. An 11-meter-tall effigy of Ticketmaster featured puppets of the Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, and was created by the Edenbridge Bonfire Society in Kent. Oasis shows in new countries were also teased recently.
This annual event has a tradition of poking fun at public figures. In the past, effigies of London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Liz Truss (alongside a lettuce), Boris Johnson, and Donald Trump have been set on fire. Andrea Deans, one of the effigy creators, said they chose Ticketmaster this year to highlight the frustration many Oasis fans felt when ticket prices unexpectedly increased.
Fans were upset after spending hours in line only to find ticket prices had surged from about £148 to as much as £355. Ticketmaster explained that these “in-demand standing tickets” were priced based on market demand and that availability and pricing could change.
Effigy co-creator Reece Hook noted that while the Gallagher brothers were included in the effigy, the real target was Ticketmaster. He added that they are big fans of Oasis and wish the band a successful tour.
