Noel Gallagher was recently asked by Matt Wilkinson about Oasis’ 2009 breakup statement.
The statement said at the time: “The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends, and comrades has become intolerable.
“And the lack of support and understanding from my management and bandmates has left me with no other option than to get me cape and seek pastures new.”
Noel said today, “I didn’t write it [the breakup statement]. I was in such a fury, and I was in a really stressful time, and being the way that I am was prepared to walk away and say nothing.
“And my management was saying, ‘You cannot say nothing to your fans.’ And I was like, ‘There’s nothing to say, it’s done.’
“And I got on a flight, went to the south of France, and then [wife] Sara and the kids came over. And by the time they’d got there, they said, ‘Well, can you sign off on this?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah…’ But someone in my office wrote it.”
He added, “Well, they know how I would have… If I was to sit and write that statement, it would have been enormously long. And I was just in such a mood, ‘No, I’m done, I’ve walked away. And that’s it.'”
