Noel Gallagher’s Epiphone Les Paul electric guitar, famously used on Oasis’s debut album “Definitely Maybe,” has definitely surpassed its auction estimate. Initially expected to fetch up to $100,000, the guitar ultimately sold for an impressive $173,500. This remarkable price shows the guitar’s iconic status and the profound impact of Oasis and Noel Gallagher’s career, but he did take a hilarious shot at Dave Grohl in the past.
The auction took place shortly after Oasis announced their highly hyped return and the reconciliation of the Gallagher brothers, Noel and Liam. The sale, conducted by Sotheby’s, included several notable Oasis guitars, with the “Definitely Maybe” Epiphone Les Paul being a standout item.
This particular guitar was instrumental in the band’s early success, as it was the only guitar Noel Gallagher used when recording Oasis’s first single, “Supersonic,” in 1993. Although the guitar likely cost Noel only a few hundred pounds when he first purchased it, its value has soared in recognition of its historical significance.
In addition to the Epiphone Les Paul, the auction featured two more guitars with ties to Oasis. A Flying V, once owned by Johnny Marr, sold for about $47,291. On top of that, Noel’s Epiphone EA-250 guitar, which appears on the cover of “Supersonic,” was sold for approximately $63,077. These sales reflect not only the enduring popularity of Oasis but also the substantial legacy of Noel Gallagher’s contribution to music.
