Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds delivered an emotional performance at London’s O2 on Saturday, November 9, with Cave playfully teasing guest bassist Colin Greenwood from Radiohead. Touring in support of their 18th album, Wild God, the band captivated fans on their second night in London. Cave spotted a fan in the front row wearing a Radiohead sweatshirt and Björk t-shirt, joking it was a “hideous” combo, adding, “We love them both. Isn’t that right, Colin? We stole Colin.” We have also revealed Radiohead’s most energetic songs.
During “Red Right Hand,” Cave playfully altered lyrics, directing a humorous line at the fan in the Radiohead gear, “You want another lousy t-shirt? He’ll get you one.”
The set included intense performances of Wild God‘s title track, “Jubilee Street” from Push the Sky Away, and songs from Carnage like “White Elephant.” Cave dedicated “O Wow O Wow (How Wonderful She Is)” to former bandmate Anita Lane, describing her as a “bright flame.”
Tender moments arrived as Cave, visibly moved, performed stripped-down renditions of “I Need You” and the classic “Into My Arms.”
Colin Greenwood, who joined Cave on solo tours and recorded for Wild God, shared his admiration for the experience with NME earlier this year. Playing with The Bad Seeds, he said, has been a “blast,” noting that Cave is a brilliant storyteller with an incredible voice and praised Cave’s piano playing and the creative process with Warren Ellis.
