One of the industry executives has opened up on the cast of James Bond as the hunt for the next 007 continues. It is claimed that “the next James Bond won’t be white” via GB News.
A couple of years have passed since No Time To Die was released. Bond kingpins Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli do not have all the time in the world to decide on the trajectory for the character of Bond.
“I’d be particularly surprised if it was a white, clipped, upper middle class English actor. That would be a bold move but I think it would be suicidal for the Broccoli franchise.
“If you’d asked me about six years ago, I’d have said it’d be Idris Elba. I think his time might have gone now as I think he may be perceived as too old.”
Broccoli has reportedly circulated a shopping list for Bond to be British, less than 40 years of age and around 5’10.
However, another anonymous film and TV executive did not agree and as told GB News that they “would be surprised if Bond wasn’t white” and pointed to previous experience as a more pressing factor.
They said:
“Henry Cavill, he’s great, but he’s been Superman… they don’t want that baggage of Superman playing Bond.”
Richard Madden recently dropped some hints regarding James Bond. Since Craig’s departure, there has been much speculation of who will next take on the mantle of Britain’s most famous spy. Daniel Craig retired as 007 last year. It has been noted that the fans have been busy dream casting the role with actors of all types.
Many suggested that Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Tom Hiddleston be among the several actors to play the role. It has been further noted that the favorites to bag the role include LGBTQ actors like Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey, singer Sam Smith, and Thor’s Tessa Thompson. However, popular actor Idris Elba is not willing to grab the role of James Bond.
