Harry and Meghan Visit Jordan Without Royal Meeting
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle travelled to Jordan for a two-day humanitarian visit this week but did not meet the country’s King and Queen, amid claims the couple were “snubbed” despite the Jordanian royals’ longstanding links with King Charles.
Daily Star reported that no meeting was scheduled between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and King Abdullah II and Queen Rania during the visit to Amman, where the California-based couple carried out engagements linked to support for displaced Syrians and Palestinians who have taken refuge in Jordan.
The report said the trip followed an invitation from Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization, and that Harry and Meghan undertook a series of charity visits soon after arriving. It also claimed the only Jordanian royal to encounter them was Princess Basma bint Talal, an aunt of the King, who briefly met the couple alongside her daughter Farah Daghistani at the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development.
During the tour, the couple visited the National Centre for Rehabilitation of Addicts, where Prince Harry spoke to patients about recovery and told them: “There’s no shame in having an addiction,” before urging them to support others in their communities. The visit has drawn continued attention after Prince Harry urged more aid for Gaza during the Jordan trip in separate remarks reported elsewhere.
The Daily Star also noted King Abdullah II’s diary included hosting Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Amman this week, and that Harry and Meghan visited the World Central Kitchen headquarters, which the report said is delivering meals across Gaza. The couple’s schedule in Jordan was continuing at the time of publication.
