Last week, Meghan Markle posted a video on Instagram to announce the new collection from her lifestyle brand As Ever. In the video, she walked through trees wearing a black dress and boots, hinting that the new products would have a holiday theme. On Tuesday, she released the new winter collection, which includes a $64 candle inspired by her royal wedding in 2018.
The brand explained that the Signature Candle No. 519 is named after May 19, 2018, the date of Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding. The candle smells of Moroccan mint leaf, white tea leaves, and cardamom, giving a fresh scent similar to mint tea. Another candle, No. 084, is based on Meghan’s birthday, August 4, and is meant to remind people of her family home.
Even though Meghan and Harry do not use their royal titles for business, she often adds small references to her royal life. For example, in an earlier collection, her shortbread cookies mentioned that the “biscuits” were inspired by her time in the UK. The connection between the candle’s scent and her wedding may not be obvious, but Meghan has said that she and Harry enjoy drinking mint tea together. On their wedding day, Harry picked flowers from their garden at Kensington Palace for her bouquet.
When As Ever first launched in April, everything sold out within an hour. The new collection is more expensive, with candles priced at $64 and sparkling wine at $89. Meghan said in an interview that the brand’s popularity has made it hard for her small team to keep up with demand.
As Ever was launched with Netflix’s Consumer Product Group and came out around the same time as Meghan’s lifestyle TV show With Love, Meghan. The show premiered in March and returned in August for a second season. Netflix has confirmed a holiday special of With Love, Meghan coming in November. Meghan said she plans to keep working with Netflix even if the show eventually ends.
