Prince Harry is currently involved in a legal dispute with the UK Home Office over his security arrangements when visiting the UK. The Duke of Sussex is challenging a decision made by RAVEC (the Royal and VIP Executive Committee), which oversees security for the Royal Family and VIPs.
The case is complicated, as members of the royal household are part of the committee that made the original decision. Harry’s unprecedented move to take the UK Government to court has strained his relationship with King Charles.
The legal battle has created a communication gap between Harry and his father, as Charles reportedly feels he cannot speak openly with his son until the case is resolved. This lack of communication also extends to Meghan Markle, with reports stating there is currently “no communication” between Meghan, King Charles, and Queen Camilla.
In addition to the security case, Harry is pursuing separate legal actions against UK tabloid publishers, including News Group Newspapers (NGN). These lawsuits involve claims of unlawful activities, such as phone hacking, carried out by journalists and private investigators working for The Sun and the now-closed News of the World between 1996 and 2011.
Harry may spend up to four days in court giving evidence as his case against NGN heads to trial next month. Alongside Harry, former Labour Party deputy leader Tom Watson is also a main claimant in the case.
