Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are reportedly not expected to have any formal roles in the royal family once Prince William becomes king, according to sources close to the royal household.
Insiders claim that Prince William, 43, has no plans to include his brother’s children in the future structure of the monarchy. As he continues to shape a more streamlined royal family, William is said to be focused on limiting the number of working royals, something he has supported for years.
According to one source, once William takes the throne, Archie and Lilibet are likely to be left out of official royal duties entirely. “There’s a big question mark over how the Sussex family fits into the monarchy in the future,” the source said. “Under William, it’s expected that Archie and Lilibet won’t be involved at all.”
This comes amid ongoing tension between Prince William and Prince Harry, who stepped away from royal duties in 2020. Since then, Harry has spoken openly about the royal family in interviews and in his 2023 memoir Spare, which caused further strain in his relationship with William.
An insider speaking to The Times of London said that William no longer dwells on the situation with Harry as he once did. “He used to be very upset about the family issues, but now he barely talks about it. It’s a big shift. It’s sad, but it’s healthier for him,” the source explained.
They also mentioned that while William once felt anger after Harry’s public comments, he now seems more indifferent about the situation.
Even though Archie and Lilibet officially became a Prince and Princess after King Charles III took the throne, their titles appear to be more symbolic than meaningful in terms of future royal responsibilities.
