Meghan Markle criticised over online posts featuring Archie and Lilibet
Meghan Markle has been criticised over the way she shares images of her children online after posting family content featuring Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four. The Duchess of Sussex has returned to social media in recent months and has shared photos and clips of the children while continuing to keep their faces out of view, a move that has prompted renewed debate about privacy and public exposure.
Express reported that journalist Ms Sierra Tishgart accused high-profile parents of “posturing parenting” when they obscure their children’s faces with emojis while still posting them online, calling the practice “performative”.
In the article, Ms Tishgart said in a TikTok video that she disliked seeing children’s faces hidden with symbols in shared images, adding: “It’s visually heinous. I don’t want to see a heart emoji with legs. And it’s performative in the worst ways.” She continued: “You’re posturing parenting, while you’re also saying, ‘I’m above you, because I vaguely care about privacy.’”
The criticism comes as Meghan has increasingly shared family updates since reappearing on social media, including posts in which Archie and Lilibet are shown from behind or with their faces covered. The Express report referenced a Disneyland visit last June for Lilibet’s fourth birthday in which the children’s faces were covered by heart emojis, and also described a recent Easter update showing the children feeding chickens, gathering eggs and taking part in an egg hunt.
Meghan and Prince Harry have repeatedly sought to balance public interest in their family life with protecting their children from unwanted attention, and the latest comments highlight the scrutiny that can follow even privacy-minded attempts to share limited glimpses of royal-adjacent family life.
