Meghan Markle Criticised Over Sydney VIP Event
Meghan Markle has been criticised by a royal commentator over an upcoming women-only appearance in Sydney, with the duchess set to travel to Australia next month alongside Prince Harry for engagements tied to their interests and business work.
Express reported that one of the couple’s scheduled engagements includes a women-only event in Sydney where Meghan will be interviewed on stage, with tickets priced at £1,440 per person and VIP packages rising to 3,199 Australian dollars (about £1,700) offering front-row seats at a gala dinner and a group photo with her.
Royal commentator Ms Bronte Coy, speaking to Sky News Australia, said the shift from high-profile television appearances to a retreat-style event suggested the duchess’s public “value has changed”, and questioned what attendees receive for the price. She was quoted as saying: “If I’m going to pay that kind of money to attend this event, presumably just to hear her speak and be in proximity to her, I want a selfie with the two of us.”
The Australia trip has drawn wider attention because it comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the Sussexes’ commercial projects, including their media and business ventures; in related Britpop News coverage, Meghan Markle’s appearance was also linked to reported financial issues involving the event’s organiser.
Meghan and Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and have since pursued a portfolio of deals and public-facing appearances, with upcoming travel and events continuing to be judged against the status and reach they held as working royals.
