Meghan and Harry’s Cookie Queens Lands US Buyer
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have secured a US distributor for a documentary they executive-produced about American Girl Scouts, in a further step towards a wider theatrical release following its festival debut.
The US rights to Cookie Queens have been acquired by Roadside Attractions, Express reported, after the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
The documentary, made through Archewell Productions in partnership with Beautiful Stories and AJNA Films, is directed by Ms Alysa Nahmias and follows a coming-of-age story set around the annual tradition of Girl Scouts selling cookies. According to the report, the film is due to appear at the SXSW (South by Southwest) festival before opening in cinemas over the summer.
Roadside co-presidents Mr Eric d’Arbeloff and Mr Howard Cohen said in a statement that the film “shines a light on an iconic American tradition”, while the publication said Variety described it as a “funny and deeply affecting portrait”. The distribution deal comes as the Sussexes continue to develop screen projects through their production banner, following the couple’s recent shift in how their media ventures are packaged and distributed.
Meghan, who has previously said she was a Girl Scout with her mother as troop leader, has publicly backed the project, telling a Sundance audience that she and Prince Harry were “so proud and privileged” to support the film and calling it one of the festival’s “most powerful and meaningful depictions” of an American tradition.
The acquisition sets the stage for a broader US release, with festival exposure now converting into a planned run in cinemas later this year and giving a clearer route to audiences beyond the documentary circuit.
