A fan recently asked Oasis rocker Liam Gallagher about his favorite band of all time.
Liam Gallagher responds
Here is what he said: “Stone Roses”
The Stone Roses are one of the most iconic bands to emerge from the UK’s Manchester scene in the late 1980s. Known for their fusion of alternative rock and dance music, their self-titled debut album, The Stone Roses, released in 1989, is widely considered one of the greatest British albums of all time. Tracks like “I Wanna Be Adored” and “She Bangs The Drums” helped define a generation and paved the way for the Britpop movement of the 1990s.
Fronted by the enigmatic Ian Brown, with John Squire’s shimmering guitar work, the band’s sound was a unique blend of jangly riffs, psychedelia, and infectious rhythms. Their influence extended far beyond the UK, inspiring countless bands across the globe.
Though The Stone Roses faced legal battles and lineup changes that slowed down their momentum, their 2012 reunion sparked a wave of nostalgia. Fans old and new flocked to sold-out shows to experience their legendary performances once again.
Despite their relatively small discography, The Stone Roses’ legacy remains undeniable. Their music continues to resonate, and their place in the pantheon of British rock is firmly cemented.
For fans of alternative rock, The Stone Roses will forever be a band that defined an era.
Meanwhile, Oasis has returned to the top of the UK music charts since announcing the concerts. The band has not performed together since 2009, when a backstage row between the Gallagher brothers saw songwriter Noel quit the band. They have scheduled several gigs next year across the UK and Ireland, beginning in Cardiff in July.
They previously put out two live albums – Familiar To Millions, released in 2000, sold more than a million copies, and Knebworth 1996 – capturing their live shows in the UK – which was released five years later in 2021.
