Liam Gallagher has been unveiled as the face of Berghaus’ new ‘ICONS’ campaign, marking a big moment for the outdoor clothing brand as it seeks to reclaim its place in British streetwear. Founded in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1966, Berghaus gained prominence in the ’80s when British mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington wore its gear to summit Everest. Gallagher himself famously donned the brand during Oasis’ European leg of their ‘Be Here Now’ tour in 1997, solidifying its connection to British music and culture. He also rejected an Oasis reunion movie.
The ‘ICONS’ range includes reimagined classics like the Trango Jacket, Mera Peak, and Lumley. Gallagher shared his nostalgia for Berghaus, recounting how he coveted his brother Noel’s jacket in the late ’80s and promised himself that he would own one when he became successful.
On top of the Berghaus campaign, Gallagher was recently announced as a face for Stone Island’s autumn and winter campaign, demonstrating his continued influence in the fashion world. This comes amid the excitement surrounding Oasis’ long-awaited reunion tour, which has seen significant demand for tickets across the UK, Ireland, North America, and Australia.
“My first encounter with Berghaus was through my brother Noel. He purchased a green one in the late ‘80s and I was always pinching it off him,” Gallagher said in a statement. “They were all the rage and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of my own. I thought to myself ‘When I’m rich and famous I’m getting myself one.’
“I finally did that and I’ve still got it to this day. To be asked to work with them on their comeback means a lot.”
