King Charles responds after Andrew arrest

King Charles III has publicly addressed the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as royal commentators warned the development could intensify scrutiny of the monarchy and how it handles internal crises. The comments come after police detained the former Duke of York as part of an investigation connected to his past links with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Fox News reported that Thames Valley Police arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of misconduct in public office and later released him the same evening after he was held for several hours, with officers continuing to search Royal Lodge, his former home in Windsor.

In the article, King Charles is quoted as saying: “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course,” adding that it “would not be right” for him to comment further as the process continues. Royal expert Mr Ian Pelham Turner described the situation as the biggest crisis facing Buckingham Palace, while royal commentator Ms Amanda Matta said palace frustration has been shaped by a long-standing approach of avoiding public intervention until courts or other governing bodies reach decisions.

The latest development follows earlier public moments in which the King was heckled over Prince Andrew’s links with Epstein, highlighting the heightened attention on royal engagements when questions about Andrew surface.

Police have previously said they were assessing claims linked to Andrew’s role as the U.K.’s special envoy for international trade, while the Fox News report noted the allegations under investigation are separate from those made by Virginia Giuffre. The case is likely to remain a major test of palace crisis management as public and media scrutiny continues.
