King Charles Jokes After Cake Slice Wobbles
King Charles shared a quick-witted response after an onlooker teased his cake-cutting during a visit to a community food centre in Northern Ireland, as the monarch and Queen Camilla helped prepare and serve food for local volunteers and guests.
During the engagement at the Warehouse Community Centre in Newtownards, Co Down, the King and Queen attempted to cut and serve a slice of cake, but the plate underneath moved and the cake nearly slipped from the table, Hello Magazine reported.
According to the same report, an onlooker joked that the messy slice could be served on crackers, prompting the King to reply: “You have to have that for your lunch.” Charles also examined the sprinkled cake and remarked: “It does look very good.”
The visit also saw Charles take part in the kitchen, where he stirred a gluten-free chocolate cake mix and was given tips by head chef Ms Dawn Stewart, who later said his mixing was “very good” and that she was “very impressed”. The appearance follows recent reporting that he avoided seeing Prince Andrew during a private Sandringham stay after the Northern Ireland trip.
The Warehouse Community Centre is a volunteer-supported facility that provides free food supplies and meals using surplus produce that would otherwise go to waste, and organisers said the King’s cake would be served as a “VIP dessert” for the following day’s lunch service.
