Mirror: Charles Turns to Anne and William
King Charles is being urged to rely on Princess Anne and Prince William as the Royal Family seeks to steady the monarchy amid escalating scrutiny linked to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. A new column argues the institution faces one of its most serious crises, with public confidence at stake as investigations and allegations continue to dominate headlines.
Writing as the Mirror’s Royal Editor, Mr Russell Myers said King Charles may lean on his “trusted lieutenant” Princess Anne for counsel and stressed that the situation also affects Prince William’s future, the Mirror reported.
The piece says the family must act collectively to demonstrate accountability, including by pressing Andrew to face allegations and cooperate with investigators, while maintaining day-to-day duties. It adds that the Prime Minister’s message that “no one is above the law” has intensified pressure on the Palace, alongside the King’s own statement that “the law must take its course”.
The analysis follows recent developments that have already raised questions about how the institution responds in moments of scandal, including the King’s public remarks after Andrew’s arrest and renewed attention on what action could be taken after investigations conclude.
Mr Myers also wrote that removing Andrew from the line of succession would require legislation and agreement among the 14 realms, and suggested that the coming weeks will test the Royal Family’s ability to project unity. For the King, the argument runs, a calm public posture will need to be matched by decisive internal steps if the monarchy is to retain trust.
