Kate Middleton Italy Visit Signals Return
Kate Middleton and Prince William are stepping up their public-facing work as the royal family navigates a difficult period, with the Princess of Wales making her first overseas trip since her 2024 cancer diagnosis earlier this month.
Middleton travelled to Reggio Emilia for a two-day visit connected to the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, Page Six reported, marking a significant moment in her return to official duties.
Ailsa Anderson, a former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth II, told People that Middleton is “our future queen” and said the appearance was a “clear signal she is back in business,” while royal author Mr Russell Myers added that “there is no institution without them” as he described the Prince and Princess of Wales as the monarchy’s “future.”
The Italy engagement follows a year in which Middleton largely stayed out of the spotlight after announcing her diagnosis, later sharing that she had completed chemotherapy and was in remission; she was also expected to receive Reggio Emilia’s top honour during the visit.
Her return comes as King Charles continues cancer treatment and the wider family faces renewed scrutiny following the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office, with further trips anticipated this year for the Waleses as their diary expands.
