Kate Middleton visited the Royal Marsden Hospital in London on January 14 to support cancer patients, but some of her comments have caused a stir.
During her visit, the Princess of Wales shared how her own treatment experience helped her. She told one patient, “There is light at the end of that tunnel,” and reassured others that they were in “the best of hands.” She also mentioned how she stayed positive during her treatment, saying that she was told to “keep a positive mindset” and that it helped. She also suggested getting “loads of sunlight” and drinking lots of water.
Some people online disagreed with her advice about sunlight. They pointed out that chemotherapy can make patients more sensitive to the sun, which can be harmful. One person wrote, “What kind of chemotherapy patient gets advised to enjoy sunlight?” Others agreed, saying sunlight could cause problems for cancer patients.
However, some defended Kate Middleton, saying she likely meant enjoying a nice day outside, not actually sitting in the sun for long periods. They also pointed out that she may have been given different advice now that she is no longer in treatment.
Experts say that cancer patients should be careful about sun exposure. Chemotherapy and radiation can make skin more sensitive, and too much sun can cause burns or other skin damage. Doctors recommend that cancer patients protect their skin from the sun.
