Kanye West, now known as Ye, says Frank Ocean once tried to convince him not to support Donald Trump before the 2016 election. During a livestream on April 8 with Digital Nas, Ye said Frank Ocean came to his house to talk about politics, telling him not to support Trump. Ye didn’t take it well. Ye posted an old photo with Ivanka Trump, as seen below, as well.
“Frank came over talking about Trump all day, telling me not to support him,” Ye said. “What does he even know about politics? I’m his senior, his OG. He used to open for me on tour.”
Ye continued by saying no one could tell him what to do when it comes to politics.
“Just because someone reads a book doesn’t mean they can tell me something,” he said. “None of them are as talented as me. I’m the greatest artist of all time.”
Ye has long been open about his support for Trump. He spoke in favor of him during his Saint Pablo Tour in 2016, met with Trump at Trump Tower, and later visited the White House in 2018 wearing a MAGA hat. He even wore the hat on Saturday Night Live that same year.
Although Ye ran against Trump in 2020 with his own brief presidential campaign, he returned to supporting Trump in 2024, when Trump beat Kamala Harris.
Back in 2016, Ye and Ocean had worked together on music. Ocean had a short track (“Frank’s Track”) on The Life of Pablo, and Ye appeared on Ocean’s Blonde album on the song “White Ferrari.” Ocean hasn’t released an album since then.
Ye also claimed recently that his song “Moon” from Donda ended Frank Ocean’s career.
“When I made ‘Moon,’ that was it for Frank,” Ye said in a March interview. “He hasn’t made another song since. Any kind of music people make, I can do it better. I’m 10 times stronger than anyone at music.”
