Kanye West said about Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show performance: “A few people been asking me ‘What did you think of the Kendrick Halftime Show?’ and I really loved the show. It was my favourite Halftime Show since the Michael Jackson era, which I kind of just barely remember, I just be seeing clips of it.”
He went on to say: “It was super simple, the flag was fresh. When they did [‘HUMBLE.’], the way people’s heads were moving. I was like, shook. This is like, super fresh. The man’s voice control and all that. And you know, of course they built up the controversy on whether he’s going to do [‘Not Like Us’]. And at the end, I saw people saying this is the worst Halftime Show and I’m just like ‘everybody I talked to in real life said this is the best Halftime Show’”.
Kanye West released his new song Beauty and the Beast during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance on February 9, 2025. This track was first previewed at the Vultures listening party in September 2024 at Wuyuan River Stadium in Haikou, Hainan, China.
At the time, Kanye announced that his upcoming album would be titled Bully and introduced Beauty and the Beast as one of its songs. Instead of a traditional streaming release, he made the track available on the Yeezy website.
The timing of the release sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many users on X sharing their thoughts. Some criticized the song for lacking originality, claiming it was just a loop of what had already been previewed. Others expressed disappointment that Kanye didn’t add any new verses, with some suggesting he had been sitting on the song for months without developing it further.
However, not all feedback was negative. Some fans praised the track, calling it one of Kanye’s best in years, while others loved the flow, melody, and beat, saying it reminded them of his older music. Meanwhile, some joked that the release went unnoticed due to the hype surrounding Kendrick’s performance.
With Bully on the way, fans are now wondering what else Kanye has in store and whether this release strategy will continue for future tracks.
