Biographer Claims Epstein Sought Access Beyond Andrew
Royal biographer Dr Andrew Lownie has claimed Jeffrey Epstein used Prince Andrew to gain status and access, and suggested the disgraced financier may have sought contact with other members of the Royal Family. The remarks were made in a podcast interview as Epstein’s links to the Duke of York continue to draw scrutiny.
Dr Lownie said in an interview that Epstein viewed Prince Andrew as a source of “credibility” and a way into elite circles, and alleged there were “stories” that other royals “may have been involved”, IBTimes UK reported.
Speaking on The Royalist podcast, Dr Lownie argued that photographs of the Duke in royal settings were valuable to Epstein and could be used to impress other influential figures. He also alleged that Epstein’s interest in royal households was not limited to the Windsors, and said he believed the story could extend beyond Prince Andrew, while stressing his comments included reported anecdotes rather than confirmed evidence.
The latest claims come as Prince Andrew remains a persistent problem for the monarchy, with a reported censure motion being discussed in the City of London in separate recent coverage.
Prince Andrew has previously denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Buckingham Palace has not publicly responded to Dr Lownie’s latest podcast comments, according to the report.
