Ice Spice apologized to her fans after a controversial performance at the Wildlands Festival in Brisbane, Australia. She was 30 minutes late to the stage on New Year’s Eve, starting her set at 10:55 pm instead of 10:30 pm. Because of the tight schedule, she only had time to perform two songs, “Deli” and “Princess Diana.” When she started her third song, “In Ha Mood,” her microphone was turned off to keep the event on track.
A journalist, Brenton Larney, mentioned that the crowd was disappointed, and Ice Spice seemed disrespectful when she walked off the stage and didn’t accept birthday flowers.
“At 11.01pm – they gave her an extra minute – they cut the mic and you heard the collective sigh from the crowd. They’d been waiting for a while and they get two songs?
It was just really disrespectful how she walked off, she was laughing, they tried to give her flowers for her birthday and she just shrugged them off.” He also claimed that it felt like the rapper “didn’t want to be there”.
The festival organizers explained on Instagram that they had to stick to the schedule to make sure the final act could perform on time for the New Year’s Eve countdown.
At her Perth show on January 4, Ice Spice apologized for the delay, saying it was because of her birthday celebrations. She joked that it took longer to “look like a Barbie,” referencing her song with Nicki Minaj. Her Australian tour ended the next day in Adelaide, and she continued touring in the UK and Europe.
“I’m sorry guys, surely y’all can forgive me,” she reportedly told the crowd during the Perth show. “It was my birthday and it takes a long time to look like a Barbie.”
